FAQs
Sharpfin has been developed in collaboration with leading asset managers in Sweden. Here you will find frequently asked questions about Sharpfin. Please contact us if you have any further questions or require further information.
-
Is Sharpfin really a custody system?
Yes, although several of our clients have underlying investment accounts with, for example, Nordnet and Avanza, Sharpfin is fundamentally built on a fully transaction-based model and calculates both returns and asset allocation directly from the transactions within the system. Unlike most other investment account systems, Sharpfin includes tools for managing not only the investment accounts but all aspects of the asset management process.
Some competitors market themselves as custody account systems despite lacking transaction processing capabilities.
-
How are corporate actions handled?
With Sharpfin’s corporate actions module, you can easily schedule all types of corporate actions and have them distributed directly across all your custody accounts. A user-friendly interface is available for managing these and for subsequently adjusting cost bases in the event of, for example, spin-offs.
Competitors sometimes manage corporate actions in isolation within other systems, which results in a great deal of extra manual work.
-
Is the reporting automated?
Yes, Sharpfin offers fully integrated and automated reporting.
Competitors often need external tools to meet the same requirements.
-
How secure is the platform?
Sharpfin reduces risks through fewer interfaces and high levels of cyber security.
Competitors often have more vulnerabilities due to separate systems.
-
Is the system easy to use?
Yes, the platform is designed to enable intuitive workflows and reduce the amount of manual work.
Competitors often use legacy interfaces that are more time-consuming.
-
Why are integrated customer due diligence and anti-money laundering controls important?
Sharpfin decided at an early stage to integrate all anti-money laundering processes into the customer onboarding process. This enables checks to be automated in a completely different way than if they were housed in an external system, and the system can quickly – as part of the order flow – respond to trades that deviate from what was agreed with the client in the know-your-client process.
It is not uncommon for asset managers to use separate systems for order processing, asset management, customer due diligence and anti-money laundering processes. This leads to late detection of regulatory breaches and increases the manual workload.
-
Do I have to build my own customer portal?
As a custodian, there is no other system available to give clients an insight into their asset management. But the answer to the question is No! Sharpfin provides a module with integrated BankID login that can easily be customised to match the custodian’s visual identity.
Many custodians choose to build their own client portal, which may seem like a limited initial cost. However, the cost lies in keeping it up to date and active over time.
-
Can I offer customers different insurance packages?
Yes, Sharpfin provides ISK and ‘bare’ custody accounts as standard. Insurance wrappers are provided seamlessly integrated with Futur.
-
What reporting requirements do fund managers have?
Custodians are subject to extensive reporting requirements, including reporting relating to their custodian licence, CSR, FATCA, SFDR/PAI sustainability reporting, and MiFIR/MiFID-related transaction and transparency reporting, in addition to local regulations.
